About the Club

The Newton Squash & Tennis Club - a true player's clubNewton Squash & Tennis Club is a private squash and tennis club owned and operated by its members and conveniently located in Newton Centre, just off Commonwealth Avenue near Centre Street. The Club was founded in 1897 and is, today, the oldest squash and tennis club in the country in continuous existence. The club underwent a major renovation in 2001, and as a result the club’s facilities now include:

  • 4 Har-Tru clay tennis courts;
  • 2 new international squash courts (one expands to become a doubles court);
  • a new fitness area equipped with aerobic and strength training equipment;
  • and new men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Working out in the new fitness center at Newton Squash & Tennis ClubThe Club’s tennis courts are considered among the finest in New England and are maintained daily to provide great playing conditions. The new squash courts are state of the art and have also been heralded for the quality of construction and the consistency of play. In addition to free weights and strength training stations, the new fitness room includes treadmills, a new elliptical machine, stationary bikes and rowing machines.

Newton Squash & Tennis Club offers a congenial atmosphere of good fellowship and sportsmanship where many long-term relationships have been formed. The club hosts regular social events as well, including an informal dinner in December and a family barbecue in June. Annual tennis and squash tournaments provide ways for members to meet other members and make new friendships.

And there are no extra court charges or fees, making the club a great value for active players. Annual membership dues include the right for members and their family to play daily with other club members or their families. (There is a modest guest fee for non-members, and a few specified ‘prime-time’ hours that are limited to primary members only). Access to the exercise room for members and their families is also included in the annual fee. And our club manager is regularly available to help make introductions for members seeking players of comparable skill levels.

During tennis season, the club employs a tennis pro who is available for half-hour or hour long lessons. And during the squash season, a squash pro is available for private or small group lessons.

The club also has a personal trainer available for members by appointment throughout the year.
